Iscoord Demo Integration : VOIP (sip compliant) & Lotus Notes/Domino, Sametime

is-phone is an integrated IP softphone that uses SIP 2.0 (Session Initiation Protocol). is-sphone is developed by iscoord ag. is-phone connects to Asterisk (ADDIX, Digium, Fonality), SIP Express Router for example VocalTec and SIP carriers/providers as well as IP PBXs from 3Com, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Cisco, Nortel or Siemens.

Current versions for Windows OS (XP SP2, Vista):
- is-phone for IBM Lotus Notes 6/7/8
- is-phone for IBM Lotus Sametime
- is-phone Java SDK based on Eclipse

We are using this solution internally and it works excellent.  We use logitech headsets and some of us use also Snom370 hardware phones.  The next step is to use the Java SDK to integrate the solution with our GEDYS 7 CRM solution.

IBM has released the next version of its Lotus Notes platform and Domino applications this Friday.

The release will be by electronic means only, with the physical distribution and documentation slated for September 21.

The release is based on the Eclipse open-source software framework and is built around a new platform called Expeditor. Expeditor enables developers to create Eclipse-based code for use within the client that can function on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

Version 8 offers a modern Web-like look and feel, with a sidebar that displays contacts, the day at a glance, RSS and Atom feeds. Other features include the ability to export documents to PDF, multidirectory integration enhancements, mail recall and new cluster replication technology.

The standard word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications are included, which all support the OpenDocument format. Within the applications, there will be in-line spell-checking and numerous changes to mail, calendar and contact management, according to IBM.

Because of its database driven structure, Lotus Notes has many advantages over conventional e-mail programs. Information is located centrally on the Domino server. Centralised storage provides organisation wide access to organisational information (e.g. organisational address book) and individual user databases. This means information stored in users’ Lotus Notes databases are accessible to other users – with the appropriate access – whilst travelling between sites or from anywhere in the world via the Internet.
Another advantage of storing information centrally on the Domino server is that if there is a problem with a user’s local desktop application, the Notes database is not lost, but can still be accessed, either at a different workstation, or via one of the web clients.
Each user’s information is centrally stored in that user’s database, which allows for greater information sharing within the an organisation. All users can communicate with other users via e-mail, but also control and delegate access of their user database to other users. This allows for meetings to be easily scheduled and calendars to be managed by other users (e.g. a personal assistant can administer their manager’s calendar and/or e-mail).
Lotus Notes developers can develop very specialised applications to interact with the information stored in the Notes database. This means that Lotus Notes has the capacity to be customised to a much greater extent than other groupware applications and indeed the implementation of Lotus Notes can be customised to some extent to suit the needs of your environment.
