IBM recently announced it would embrace the OpenOffice.org productivity suite project and we’re already seeing results, chiefly the beta release of IBM’s free Lotus Symphony. Download it here
There are three core applications: Lotus Symphony Documents, Lotus Symphony Spreadsheets and Lotus Symphony Presentations.
The applications, currently in beta, will work on Windows and Linux computers, all claim to offer a simple, clean and logical interface and are in the non-propriety ODF format.
IBM Lotus Symphony Documents allows users to create, edit, share, and save word processing documents. Users can start with a blank document, import an existing document, or choose from a set of document templates.
IBM Lotus Symphony Presentations allows end users to create graphic presentations that can be shared with audiences via a slide show mode. The presentations created by Lotus Symphony Presentation software can be created from scratch or using the included presentation templates for a variety of looks.
IBM Lotus Symphony Spreadsheets allows end users to create, edit, share, and save a variety of spreadsheets. Users can create blank documents, import existing documents, or choose from a set of document templates. Standard navigational elements include toolbars, an editing window, and a status bar.

Recently discovered this little tool, and I absolute love it. What does it do? Well, it analyses your mailfile and folder structure/contents. When a new email arrives, SwiftFile gives you three folder where it thinks you will move the mail (based on the sender, subject, body, …).
In my experience it’s almost always correct, it learns fast and I save a lot of time because I no longer longer have to drag/drop, ‘move to folder’, … I can just click the correct folder. This is how it looks like in my mail file:

Notes 8 is mainly a client release, so there are not too many new things in the client, but some of them are nice. I’ll list them here.
1. Composite applications
I’ve been playing around with this and it’s still quite a challenge. Some small bugs, but the idea is promising. You can find more information here.
2. General new features (the ones I like the most)
->@CopySelectedAsTable
->@CalendarFormat
->Show image as thumbnail in RTLite field
->Agent can be triggered on server start
->Possible to defer Index Creation (e.g. to the time a user sort a column)
->Prevent Simple Search when db is not full text indexed
3. LotusScript
->NotesDirectory(Navigator) class
->view event ‘onSelect’ (mainly needed when building Composite Apps)
4. Web Development
->$$HtmlTagAttributes
->$$HtmlOptions (possible per field)
->readViewEntries (as JSON)
5. Web Services consuming
->it’s built in so you don’t need any additional jar-files deployed on the client

is-phone is an integrated IP softphone that uses SIP 2.0 (Session Initiation Protocol). is-sphone is developed by iscoord ag. is-phone connects to Asterisk (ADDIX, Digium, Fonality), SIP Express Router for example VocalTec and SIP carriers/providers as well as IP PBXs from 3Com, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Cisco, Nortel or Siemens.
Current versions for Windows OS (XP SP2, Vista):
- is-phone for IBM Lotus Notes 6/7/8
- is-phone for IBM Lotus Sametime
- is-phone Java SDK based on Eclipse
We are using this solution internally and it works excellent. We use logitech headsets and some of us use also Snom370 hardware phones. The next step is to use the Java SDK to integrate the solution with our GEDYS 7 CRM solution.
